Region 1 Operations Brigade Now Recruiting! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Administrator

We are keen to recruit additional members from Mt Barker community and surrounding districts to be apart of this active CFS Brigade.

Current and former members of local CFS brigades are invited to consider joining as are other local community members.

It is important to note that you do not have to be a Country Fire Service Member. This is a volunteering opertunity for anyone wanting to make a contribution to community safety in South Australia.

An Operations Brigade is a supporting organization and is not actively involved in the physical suppression of fires or any other front line incident action.

The two main roles of the Region 1 Operations Brigade are to:-

  • provide support to the Region 1 Coordination Centre during emergency incidents and on days of High Fire Danger.
  • maintain and operate a fully outfitted mobile communications vehicle as a forward command centre during incidents in the Region, across the state and interstate.

Activities undertaken by Operations Brigade members during those incidents include:-

  • Resource Tracking (acknowledging, dispatching and monitoring location of appliances)
  • Radio Communications (GRN and VHF).
  • Office administration(telephones, Faxing, photocopying, recording, filing etc0
  • Computing activities using a variety of applications (Word, Excel, E-mail, intenet mapping, smart boards, paging etc)
  • Logistics support (supply of materials & services, provision transport, medical & other services)

Regular Operations Brigade training for the roles detailed above takes place at the Regional Office at 75 Gawler Street Mt Barker on alternate Wednesdays during winter & weekly during the daylight saving period.
